LNL Presents Matt Star in Seoul
Lessnless brings minimal techno act Matt Star to Quadro for a little midweek music, supported by LNL residents Soolee, Sarovia and S-Pill. Entry costs 10,000 won and a free drink is included if you ‘like’ LNL and Quadro on Facebook.
Jack Beats at Club Answer
This event at Club Answer is a pre-Global Gathering party, free to anyone who has already purchased tickets to the upcoming dance music festival. Jack Beats is the joint pseudonym of DJ duo Beni G (Mixologists) and Plus One (Scratch Perverts). If you’re into more mainstream, beat-led house music then this event should be a sick introduction to GGK. Click here for our 2011 review.
An entire Friday night spent listening to The Cure? Yes please. A couple of Seoul residents are organising a get-together at Cure bar in Hongdae, located near the big fake cathedral Castle Praha. The playlist will be themed around new wave/ 80′s music and anyone’s welcome. Here’s the website.
FRIDAY AND SATURDAY
Cakeshop Seoul Opening Weekend
We’ve already previewed Cakeshop’s opening, which we’re super excited about. Comprising of a line-up of some of our favourite local DJs, as well as uber cool Manchester spinner XXXY (Sat night), it’ll be hard to tear ourselves away from the freshly-baked Itaewon venue this weekend. If you’re interested in attending, head straight to our delicious Cakeshop contest for a chance of nabbing one of 10 pairs of free pre-12 o clock guestlist entries.
Gigs at FF, Hongdae
Although more used to stumbling out of FF’s at daybreak on a Sunday morning, drenched in other people’s sweat, we’ve also caught some epic earlier gigs at the enchantingly grubby Hongdae venue. This weekend’s line-up looks like it’ll be a match for some past memoriez of ours at the venue, with Vidulgi Ooyoo leading the charge on Friday night, ahead of their performance at The Creators Project the next day. Saturday is also looking sweet, with Used Cassettes and Sam x Yukari performing, as well as a host of other acts. Unlimited free cocktails from 11pm – 12. Yoikes.
It’s not Halloween, but the organiser of this horror-themed trawl of Seoul wants you to zombify yourself up anyway, inspired by his trip to the Toronto Zombie Festival 2011. The plan is to meet in Hongdae at 4pm to gather and socialise before setting off for a walk from 5pm. Fake blood mandatory.
Even more quality bands to get your proverbial teeth into, No Respect For Beauty and Yamagata Tweakster are performing the Seoul leg of their Korean tour this Sat at 10:30pm, Salon Badabie. Encouraging underground bands like these to tour is a very new project from Bus King, who are helping groups branch out into other cities to share their music. The Seoul concert costs 20,000 at the door. Read more about the Bus King initiative on their website.
SATURDAY AND SUNDAY
The Creators Project
We previewed this event in detail since it looks like the most exciting thing happening this week month. The Creators Project is an annual showcase of some of Korea’s hottest music acts, with 2NE1, Drunken Tiger and Nosaj Thing performing at the Saturday night concert. Exhibitions of technologically-influenced art are also integral to the project.
Foreigners Flea Market
If you want to pick up some secondhand stuff from overseas then hit up the Foreigners Flea Market this Saturday or Sunday, located at Gwanghwamun Plaza. The market runs from 1-5pm both days and attempts to “expand exchanges between the foreign residents and Seoul citizens”.
