This freezing February day is apparently Korea’s coldest in 35 years, which is a brilliant reintroduction to the country after a month in Thailand and Vietnam. I’m having terrifying thoughts about my blood freezing/ having to wear longjohns, but am keeping my spirits up by planning a snowboarding trip for this weekend. Even if you’re not lucky enough to be hitting the slopes on Saturday and Sunday, there are some Seoul-and-beyond events which should keep you entertained for a couple of days. If you can tear yourself away from your ondol (underfloor heating), that is.
Beam Eyes Beam – Love X Stereo
Beam Eyes Beam are a 5 piece rock-indie band hailing from Korea. They are up and coming, and for 15,000 won it promises to be a good gig.
The gig is at Club Spot, Hongdae: here is their website and here is their .
Check out the Korea Gig Guide for an extensive list of Hongdae gigs on both Friday and Saturday nights this week.
Platoon Flea Market
Volume 28 of this popular market at Platoon is supposed to be perfect for picking up a Valentine’s Day present. I’m open to receiving any gifts, but you’ll probably have to send them to me by husky dog.
For more information and for other events on at Platoon go to their homepage.
Judas Priest in concert.
This is a bit of an oddity but it might mean a spate of 70′s influenced punk rockers in Seoul, which is a demographic that is currently severely underrepresented in the area judging from the lack of facial piercings on the streets.
Location: Olympic Park Gymnasium
Price: 77,000 – 121,000
Social Underground #1
A new monthly club night at our favorite bar, Social Underground is a free event, and if you have been to Exit bar before you’ll know how chilled and relaxed the atmosphere is and how good the music is. Even on a regular night the music is some of the best in Hongdae, so get down to Social Underground for the next level.
