Puchon Fantastic Film Festival

If you weren’t one of the six who won Puchon Fantastic Film Fest tickets from our contest, worry not, you can still spend the next week or so inside a makeshift cinema in Puchon indulging in some world/ horror/ art/ romance (delete as appropriate) movies. The festival starts today with an opening ceremony and is ongoing until the end of the month. For the schedule, including details of a rather ace looking midnight screening of Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining, give this a click.

Mark Kozelek

Baram Seoul, who brought Deerhoof to Korea last October, are putting on two nights with singer/ songwriter Mark Kozelek, famed for being in Sun Kil Moon and Red House Painters. Tickets are 55,000 won on the door and the shows start at 8pm. Catch him in Hongdae on Thursday and Seodaemun on Friday.

The second annual Innertrip Festival is coming soon, with the organisers putting on this psy-trance night as a warm-up for the 24hour extravaganza-in-a-field that’s happening on the 25th of August. If you’re into music of the alternative kind, including dubstep, drum&bass and, of course, psy-trance, make your way to Obeg in Hongdae this weekend to get yourself hyped up for the upcoming festival. Entry is 5000 won. Obeg is a club that looks like the inside of a Moroccan sandcastle.

Sensation White at Kintex in Ilsan is our choice for this week’s largest, most overly-advertised party, which we’re pretty sure is really a toothpaste rather than a rave sponsored by a famous beer brand. At 125,000 won tickets are super expensive, but if you’re a fan of big-name DJs like Fedde Le Grand and Mr White then you should probably splash out. Wear something white and shiny.

The Meet Market Masquerade

The monthly event ‘for queers and their allies’ is on again at Myoungwolgwan in Hongdae. Organisers The Butch-ers are encouraging you to put on a mask to get a free shot at the door before 11pm. Bellydancer Eshe will be performing at midnight, so if you missed the recent Asia RAQS Bellydance Festival in Seoul you can catch her shaking it this Saturday night instead. Here’s some .

A couple of doors up from MWG is Bar Exit, which is holding another free electro party this Saturday night. Pop by if you’re in the neighbourhood, Exit is always a safe option on the weekend. DJ Loki will be playing; here’s a mix from him, poetically entitled ‘Soft as Shite, Hard as Nails’.
