Some sad news came in this week. The super team behind SuperColorSuper are possibly closing their doors to bringing international acts to Korea, mainly due to lack of support and awareness of the fabulous artists. This will mean no more access to artists like Gold Panda, Four Tet or CocoRosie (to name just a few of the phenomenal artists SCS have brought to Korea in the last few years).
One of the possible final international acts brought to you by SCS will be No Age, the awesome American post-punk duo with a strong following within the LA indie music scene. Influenced by everyone from the Ramones to My Bloody Valentine, No Age’s addictive sound has spread worldwide, aided by the release of three albums and subsequent tours.
To celebrate No Age corrupting the speakers at Rolling Hall in Seoul next Saturday we have been given TWO pairs of tickets for Chincha readers to get their hands on. For the chance to win simply leave a short comment below this post, in answer to the following question:
What’s the best live gig you’ve been to in Korea and why?
Two comments will be selected at random and the winners will be announced next Wednesday.
If you don’t win you should buy a ticket anyway because it’s sure to be one hell of a party.
For more details on the No Age gig, check out SuperColorSuper’s website. Future remaining SCS international events are Blonde Redhead and Asobi Seksu. To help prevent international closing, see what you can do to help keep the live music scene on fire here.

ReplyDefinitely the best gig I’ve been to in Seoul was Mogwai and Vidulgi Ooyoo. Followed by Iron Maiden. Followed by Das Racist. Followed by Flaming Lips. Followed by Fatboy Slim. Followed by The Rub.

ReplyOn my first night in the city, Halloween, I saw an all Korean female Talking Heads cover band. I have spent the last several months trying to find them again, to no avail

ReplyNot quite best gig, but I was lucky to be in Busan for the first G’old night in November. Cracking crowd, great fun was had by all. As a regular at 곱창 I knew to expect something special but this night more than delivered. Thanks!

ReplyMelt Banana/Freebird/2009.
I’d only been here a few weeks and found out about it the night before the show. Reeling from supply side dickery vis a vis hagwon hell for the first time, this was a pretty sound way to blast security deposite blues outta my skull.
For anyone not yet down with the Banana, the best way I could describe them is if Minor Threat got high on their own supply and pretended they were Tony Hawk 64. Or the Locust.
Between repeated headphone stranglings, the craziest dancing I’ve yet seen on these shores and a Korean dude who was impossibly fucking excited about his helmet, it was exceptional.
In conclusion, we were all wrong about Dick Clark being a robot and I’m poor so tickets yes.

ReplyThe best live gig I’ve been to in Korea was Deerhoof. I used to listen to them years ago and wasn’t expecting much but they blew me away! The venue was a perfect size, great crowd and atmosphere, the sound was brilliant and Deerhoof put on a cracker of a show. Great, bonkers support from Oorutaichi as well. I only wish I’d gone twice.

ReplyBest gig ever was a average Wagwak gig at Freebird a year and a half ago. I crowd surfed and cracked my head off a girder. Pretty cool.

ReplyActually. Last saturday. Pictureplane. It was almost a religious experience. The chilled out street vibes outside Exit were absolutely delectable. Didn’t hurt that Pictureplane was so down to earth and ready to mix and mingle with the crowd. Even the power cuts added some anxious anticipation thrills of the sort. Simply.Amazing.
p.s: effin gutted I missed Gold Panda, Four Tet or CocoRosi..Oh WHAT NOWWWWW

ReplyI think the best gig I have ever been to in Korea was my first weekend in Seoul. I don’t know the bands name but I wandered into this bar and up on the stage was this awesome Indie-Korean band rocking out. The music was right, everyone was jamming. It solidified I made the right choice in coming to Korea.
