Merry Christmas and happy post-election!

We published some New Year’s Eve events in Seoul this week on Chincha since the major night out of the year is going to be here in a flash - check the choices out here.  We also met up with Seoul-based model Monika Rofler for a chat, who freelances here in Korea, and shot some gravity-defying moves at a B-boy contest. Just your average seven days in the ROK then.


The Tim Burton Exhibit opened last week at the SeMA in Seoul, its last stop in the entire world. Read our review and then go see some freaky, hideous and beautiful art from one of the world’s biggest movie directors.


The Pojangmacha Project

Platoon are holding their Pojangmacha Project this week, in celebration of Korea’s tented street restaurants. The three night affair will include culinary art, visual art, design, and architecture, with a large focus on the latter subject. Bi-lingual arts magazine ELOQUENCE are also hosting their one-year anniversary as part of the event. According to the venue, “it’s a whole weekend of food and drinks and fun.”


CRACKHOUSE at Cakeshop

In honour of the coming apocalypse, Silk/Juice and Project Outings are banding together to turn Cakeshop, the Itaewon den of depravity, into an official crackhouse for the evening. In Living Color T-Shirt Tag Party

If you’ve never woken up with marker pen all over your face then Friday’s ‘In Living Color’ event is your chance to make this happen. The charitable organisers of this t-shirt tag party realise “it’s sometimes difficult to strike up a conversation with strangers, so why not just draw on their clothes instead?” White t-shirts and pens will be sold  for 10,000won to raise money for students to attend school in Namibia. The event is at Dojo Lounge –  on it.


Nature Teaches Beasts to Know Their Friends

This exhibition exploring the relationship between animals and humans – both good and bad – features artwork by several Korean and international creatives including Cora Kobischka, an artist we recently interviewed for our ‘Shot of Soju’ series. , which launches from 5pm this Saturday and continues until January 1st.

Super Sketch

The arty, musical spectacle is back with lots of awesome musicians and artists getting involved. Most notably, Korean American teen prodigy Beat Culture is making an appearance, whose DJ set at Powwow we reviewed a while back. ALSO, you can win a pair of 8 tickets to the show through us by entering the poster competition, just by creating a design like the amazing example we came up with below. Dead On at Exit

Exit’s expensive, vintage front sign was stolen last week and Jin, the owner, would really like it back. He has CCTV footage of the culprit but is willing to refrain from handing it over to the police if the sign is returned to him ASAP. If anyone can help out with us please contact us on . Bass Attack’s One Year Anniversary

The popular dubstep and d’n'b night is hosting its one year celebration on Saturday at 500 (Obeg) in Hongdae, the club that looks like a cave.  A roster of the best Bass Attack DJs will be spinning and the excellent Hospital Photograph will capture the event on camera. . Entry is 10,000 won before midnight and 20,000 afterwards.


Volt Age Fred Perry Viewzic Session

The final Fred Perry and Viewzic collaboration is on Monday with Volt Age, the huge collection of DJs that are creating “the sound of Seoul” – extremely listenable beats with an electro basis. The party is at the very cool aA Design Museum in Hongdae, a great, eclectic space. Buy tickets for 25,000 won on Interpark.

Jingle Bass

If you already have plans on Sat night and can’t make Bass Attack, Jingle Bass is on at Myoungwolgwan on Christmas Eve. Get your d’n'b fix at the Hongdae basement club the night before Xmas. It’s what Baby Jesus would have wanted.  .

Xmas Eve Party

Moonnight are putting on an with a burlesque and bands twist.  The Itaewon club have invited indie group DMCK to play and dance troupe WhiteLies Burlesque Revue to perform. Dress code is sexy, chic or Christmassy, and mulled wine will be served at the bar.

Xmarth (Solo Battle)

The accidentally viral Facebook post from a guy complaining that Christmas is such a singles-orientated holiday has quickly spiralled into a flashmob meetup for ‘solo’ people. The deal is to turn up at Yeouido Park, wear green to signify your unattached relationship status, and grab a partner when the whistle is blown. Then whisk them off on a date for the evening – you’re bound to find someone you like out of the .
