As well as the usual Hongdae gigs we tend to bang on about, there are a load of alternative things going on this week. And by alternative, I mean events that don’t involve getting drunk and accosting the Pad Thai guy for more peanut sauce. FYI: he’s based outside FF, in case that’s what you did have in mind for this weekend (we won’t judge).
Let’s get the Hongdae shizzle out of the way first. 5 clubs (Freebird, FF, GoGos2, Spot, MWG) for 10,000 won, a free drink, and a whole heap of bands. If you’re heading to the area on Friday night, it’s likely you’ll end up parting with your manwon at one of these clubs. At least you can kid yourself you’re getting a good deal, even if all you end up doing is passing out on the dancefloor of GoGos2 (ooh, sticky). Notably, Mineri have reunited for a show at FF with Sparrow Hills, Table People and Used Cassettes for a few November dates.
Coreana Show Me Your Hair Exhibition – Ongoing till Nov 30th

Record and CD Fair – Saturday
The organisers of this record fair at Platoon reckon it’s the first one of its kind in Seoul, making it a must-attend if just for the novelty value. Although with the promise of thousands of vinyls on sale, any true music lover should have already gotten their early bird ticket. The event, starting at 12pm, offers performances from artists throughout the day, along with CDs and LPs from all over the world as provided by 40 different record shops in Korea. It starts at 12pm and entry is 10,000 won. Platoon is notoriously difficult to find so here are some directions.

Head to Gangnam this weekend if you’re craving some TechnoTechnoTechno. is getting a fair bit of attention in his genre and has done some addictive remixes, including In The Summer by Crystal Fighters (below). For more of the same the French DJ will be at Club Eden on Saturday night.
Clothing Swap – Sunday
If you want to trade in some of your wares then this might just be the ideal opportunity. Western sizes are notoriously hard to come by in Korea so the minds behind this clothing swap have suggested a one-for-one exchange event. The more you bring, the more you can get, with any leftover items being donated to charity. It’s on from 2-6pm at The Local in Haebangchon. See for more details.
