Spring? We think we jinxed it when we said it had already arrived in last Thursday’s events in Seoul post. Here are some street style pictures from Seoul Fashion Week to make up for it.
ONGOING
Cherry Blossoms are goooo. You’ll be able to head to different areas around Seoul and Korea for pinky-white floral festivals from this weekend. Make sure you catch them on camera before the rain torrents down and the petals turn into a squishy grey mess on the floor. .
New Exhibit: Sterling Ruby at Kukje Gallery
American painter and sculpture Sterling Ruby’s work is at Kukje Gallery from Thursday the 11th of May. This will be the artist’s first exhibition in Korea and will feature older work, as well as a new series of ceramic basin art named ‘Basin Theology’.
Final Weekend: Tim Burton Exhibition in Seoul
This weekend is curtain call for Tim Burton’s exhibition in Seoul. Heed this review of the show and cross it off your list if you haven’t yet. It’s also the last weekend for Michael Lau’s toy exhibit if you want to go art-show-hopping this weekend.

Coffee Expo
COEX mall is holding a coffee expo this weekend, from Thursday the 11th – Sunday 14th of April. Coffee culture in Korea is still booming and the expo is mainly for those in the coffee industry or interested in being part of it. No doubt there’ll be some delicious caffeinated giveaways floating around, too.

Tastemakers at Octagon
Superclub Octagon is doing something pretty cool this Thursday night under the tutelage of Tastemakers, an event group meshing fashion, art and music together. DJ Felix da Housecat, Otto Knows, Angger Dimas & Jayoza are playing and there’ll be burlesque and acrobatic performances. Email to RSVP for free entry (plus a drink).
FRIDAY
VOVO: Vintage Opticon Video Opera
Six different musicians will create a live soundtrack for several short films at Yogiga Expressions Gallery (directions here) to create a “Vintage Opticon” video opera. Everything starts at 8pm and spiked soda, popcorn, and access to an experimental photo booth are included in the W5,000 ticket. the event for a list of the films featured.
Indie to Go + at Freebird
For experimental, alternative and awesome indie head to Freebird in Hongdae this weekend. The club often holds great live music gigs, but with Kuang Program, Yamagata Tweakster and We Dance playing you can get all your K-music kicks in one place this Friday night. . Bands start at 7:30pm.
SATURDAY
Bratson Showroom
, punk fashion & lifestyle brand Bratson are opening up a showroom in Hannam-dong this Saturday, where Magpie will be serving their beer. Swing by to check it out between 2pm and 8pm. The address to punch into your GPS is 684-101 Hannam-dong / 한남동 684-101.
Dottegi Outdoor Flea Market
The vendors surrounding Noksapyeong-daero (near Itaewon) are . From 12-7pm their mission is to ‘find hidden gems sleeping in your closet’, ‘help your tight financial situation’, ‘get out of this damn boring routine, ‘meet good folks’, and ‘have fun’.
Gareth Emery at Ellui
in Gangnam are hosting house/ trance UK DJ Gareth Emery this weekend. W30,000 (free drink included) is the cost to spend a sweaty night with the 14th best DJ in the world according to bastion of DJ knowledge, DJ Mag (the clue is in the title).
Fashirt Party

Full Tilt at Exit
It’s the launch of Full Tilt, a new monthly night at Exit by one of our favourite Seoul-based underground DJs, Shins. Y-Signal is running the event with him and underground house spinners Silk/Juice will join them. Shots are W3000 all night!
Platoon Kunsthalle 4th Birthday
Platoon in Gangnam are celebrating their birthday this weekend. As well as drinking and dancing shenanigans on Friday night, as part of their long-running Digital Peace 2013 event the venue will be screening films all night Saturday for a free film fest/ sleepover. A sunrise breakfast will be served the next day.
Ironnom (철든놈) Restaurant Launch
BBQ brand Ironnom have revamped a derelict factory into a restaurant and are opening up this Saturday for a party. Music People (Slow Danse) and Magicotodisco are DJing, there’ll be a drinks pop-up, and a video installation by Ellen Kim. .

Instagram Meetup Seoul
is calling all cell phone photographers to Han River Park this Sunday for a photo challenge. It will start at noon and run til three. If you can’t make it and want to follow along, the hashtag is #InstameetSeoul and #InstagramSeoul.
Rain Date for Bike Party Seoul
Lost Boys and Girls get a second chance at a bike party. Bike Party Seoul #6, themed Never never-land, has been rescheduled for this Sunday at 5pm. Don your green tights, fairy wings, or eye-patch and head to Dongjak station. The route will encompass the Hangang bridge and will finish in Itaewon. The event page has more.
