Seoul Open Art Fair at COEX

The Seoul Open Art Fair is at COEX mall until the 6th of May. Exhibitions include art from G20 representative Hwang Ho Sup, a sculpture show, and a collection of works from young artists. Entry cost is W10,000 and you can see the opening times on the official website.

Platform Place Sale

Designer shop Platform Place are having a sale from Friday 3rd – 10th of May on a selection of their stock. For brands like Incase, Hentsch Man, Penfield and more, head to their snazzy Sinsa shop.

Escape From Camp 14 Author Talk 

Blaine Harden, the author of Escape From Camp 14, a biography of Shin Dong-hyuk, “the only person born and raised in a North Korean prison camp to escape to the West,” is holding an author talk in conjunction with 10 Magazine. .

Junglist with Andy C at Mansion

The ‘world’s number one d&b DJ’ is at Mansion in Hongdae this weekend. Tickets are W30,000; pick them up on Interpark.

Total Recall at Cakeshop

Multi Seoul , playing music you can’t hear anywhere else in Seoul. Listen to bass, garage, funky and grime this Fri night at Cakeshop through some ace DJs.

Geeks, Zion T, Primary, D-Unit and Fellas at Rolling Hall

Advance tickets for this stand-out hip hop gig are W33,000 from the Interpark website. We’re particularly into the Primary, who we caught a while back with his crew at Sangsang Madang as part of the Fred Perry Viewzic Sessions.

Ansan Street Arts Festival

Sound Picnic have created a program as part of Ansan Street Arts Festival, outside of Seoul, featuring live graffiti painting in the daytime followed by a street party from 8pm till dawn. DJS Em Bangkok Electro, BIG BOY & SHINS, MOD and KIMPRO are all slated to spin. .

Audra Connolly and Willow Lyou at JY Hall

Acoustic singer-songwriters Willow Lyou and Audra Connolly are coheadlining new venue JY Hall at 7pm. Chincha has a preview of the show here and directions and more information can be found on the .

51+ Festival

Naturally, the 51+ Festival is a festival with over 51 musicians taking part. The extensive line-up features Korean underground greats such as Kuang Program, Yukari, members of Volt Age and Yamagata Tweakster. Seoul Urban art Project “Hello, Stranger”

SUP is a street art collective based in South Korea’s capital. Sangsang Madang is an arts space in Hongdae. ‘Hello, Stranger’ is a series of seminars and workshops by the group at the aforementioned venue. Aram Lee’s is an artist involved with the collective who will be live painting this Saturday. Read more about it in our preview (and see some of SUP’s amaaaaze art). Unfortunately, the event series will only be in Korean.

5 Colors 5 Bands

Yogiga as a venue is often hit-or-miss but this weekend looks like it should be a hit. 5 bands will play muzack in time to videos representing 5 different colours. Watch the preview below or .

Monthly outdoor DJ party in Myeongdong is on this weekend from 10pm in the streets of the shopping district. Get there from 10pm for four hours of al fresco dancing fun with some tip top musicians.

A photography exhibition from Imzoo, Ken Robinson, 이치훈, 배지훈, 조재룡 is running at the Hangangjin Comme des Garçons store from the 6th – 12th of May, as a precursor to an event series launching from May 10th with VLUF, DDND MVMNT, and BNS Krew organising separate parties.

Jaden Smith’s MSFTSRep & Choi Bum Suk’s General Idea Collab Pop-up

Will Smith’s son is in Seoul next week, repping his new clothing line. Seoulcialite Agency are inviting us to a special pop-up store event featuring a collaboration between Jaden Smith’s MSFTSRep & Choi Bum Suk’s General Idea, on Wednesday, May 8th, 2013 at the General Idea Seoul location from 11:00am to 2:00pm. Slash Live in Seoul
