Anish Kapoor Leeum Samsung Exhibition
Anish Kapoor’s extraordinary sculptures are currently exhibiting at the Leeum Samsung Museum in Seoul until February 2013. Artist and Aweh visual director, Chung Park, wrote an excellent review of the show for us: read all about it here.
Aether Closing Photography Exhibition
Art of Facts, an upcoming online heritage apparel store, recently held a pop-up party to give a taste of what’s to come with their site. They also commissioned Aether to create a nature-themed photography exhibition at Seoul Salon, which ends with a closing party today (Thursday 29th Nov). Visit if you like artisanal coffee, sugary smores, and well-priced goods that you can’t get anywhere else in Korea. Here’s some coverage from us on Art of Facts’ last event.
If you don’t feel like leaving the house this weekend then you can have an internet party at home while still repping Asia with an Mnet America exclusive live English stream of the Mnet Asian Music Awards. Big Bang, Super Junior, SISTAR and Psy are performing, so it’s bound to be a Kpop fest. Lady B/Cut Crossdressing Party
Hailed as Korea’s first crossdressing club night, Lady B/Cut at Myoungwolgwan aims to promote acceptance of people who choose to dress in clothing traditionally meant for the opposite sex. As well as encouraging Korea’s queer community to come along, MWG have told us that anyone is welcome – whatever your clothing choices or sexual orientation. See for more details.
Unsung Skateboarding Magazine Launch Party
Skate culture isn’t all that prevalent in Korea, which is all the more reason to create a publication championing the sport and lifestyle. We previewed this event earlier this week. Check it out here.
From the people that brought you the epic VLUF party series, Aweh Block Party, and last week’s Table People CD launch, Unionmade is a collaborative effort incorporating live music and DJ sets in kickass Itaewon club, Union. This is another chance to check out talented new band Killer Drones and get down to DJs Conan and Kingmck. Tickets are 15,000 won and there’ll be a rooftop BBQ available full of grilled yumminess.
Monthly Flea Market and Brandt Bauer Frick concert
Platoon’s monthly flea market is on this weekend, followed by an evening performance by “genre-defying act” Brandt Bauer Frick – a German ensemble who blend techno with classical music. Rubber Seoul 2012
Rubber Seoul comprises of simultaneous gigs at five of the most popular clubs in Hongdae: Club FF, Club TA, Gogos2, Freebird, and DGBD, in order to raise money in the fight against AIDS. This is the fifth Rubber Seoul event and the first to land on World AIDS Day. which makes this year’s event extra special to everyone involved. Entry to any of the clubs costs 10,000 won and 100% of the profits goes to Little Travellers, the South African charity you’ll be raising money for. .
Seoul Bike Party
If you woke up this morning thinking, ‘this weekend, what I really wanna do is cruise around town with a neon-light decorated bike and a boombox strapped to my back’ then you’re in luck, because that’s what’s going down on Saturday night in Seoul. Glowsticks will be provided for your spokes, but bringing as many lights as possible is recommended. Make friends with on Facebook and then start riding at 5pm this Sat from Yeouido park’s national flag post.
Dambi Kim, aka dance music blogger and DJ, will be playing at SU, at EXIT this weekend. She even made a sweet mix to warm you up for the occasion. As usual, the night is stripped down, meaning it’s all about the music and strictly no cover prices.
Nori Bar 20 Year Anniversary
The legendary Nori bar is celebrating its 20 year anniversary this weekend, combining music from both the Hongdae reggae and Itaewon hip hop scenes. As one of the oldest bars in the area it has a ton of culture and should be especially off the chain this weekend.
